Zooming in
Poe has been in the jewelry business for over 50 years. As a long-time entrepreneur, Poe said he began his career as a pawn shop owner in Pasadena, but later transitioned into owning a jewelry business.
“I had a big heart and I had a hard time dealing with people that were having a [difficult] time every day,” Poe said. “So I decided to sell the pawn shop and stay just strictly with the jewelry business.”
What they offer
Ranch Road Jewelry serves over 50 clients daily, according to Poe, with nearly 10 different services, from high end watch repair, traditional retail, pearl stringing, purchasing gold and more. The retail selection includes a range of natural diamonds, lab diamonds, wedding sets, earrings, necklaces, estate jewelry and watches. According to Poe, his favorite item to sell is a wedding ring.
“It's a super exciting time for the first time buyer—the 18-year-old or 20-year-old couple that 's getting their rings—and I get to design it,” Poe said.
Along with weddings, many customers travel to visit the store for other special occasions like Valentine’s Day, Christmas, Mother’s Day and birthdays, said Poe, and he enjoys being part of that celebration.
“When they come in here and they say, ‘George, you made this ring 40 years ago or 30 years ago.’ [It's] awesome that not only did I make it then, but they're still following me,” Poe said. “When it comes to their wedding ring or their grandmother's diamonds or any jewelry item, most of the time there's a story behind it. And it's usually a special one.”
Meet the team
Ranch Road Jewelry has a small team with decades of experience, each of them adding value to the business, Poe said. The team prioritizes customer service through creating a pressure-free, comfortable and trusting environment, said Poe.
“Everybody needs to be treated equally, and whether it be a $10 watch battery or a $10,000 wedding ring, they should have the same respect.”
